ImmunityBio, Inc. is a late-stage immunotherapy company developing a broad pipeline of next-generation therapies that drive immunogenic mechanisms for defeating cancer and infectious disease. The company's immunotherapy platform is designed to activate both the innate (natural killer cell and macrophage) and adaptive (T cell) immune systems to create long-term "immunological memory." The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has accepted for review ImmunityBio's resubmission of its Biologics License Application (BLA) for N-803, a first-in-class IL-15 superagonist, plus Bacillus Calmette-Guerin (BCG) for the treatment of BCG-unresponsive non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer carcinoma in situ (CIS) with or without Ta or T1 disease, and has set a user fee goal date (PDUFA date) of April 23, 2024.

Position Summary

The Internal Audit Manager is responsible for all aspects of the audit cycle, including planning and assessing risk, developing, and executing on audit procedures, and effectively reporting on audit activities. The role assists with the assessment of its internal controls over financial reporting as well as performing internal/operational audits, and also works closely with our independent accounting firm under their direct assistance model. The Internal Audit Manager will partner with co-source partner to develop and manage a risk-based audit program and will independently evaluate internal controls and compliance with established policies, procedures, and regulations across the entire company and will regularly make recommendations for improvement.

The Internal Audit Manager will manage the process of assessing the adequacy, effectiveness, and compliance of internal controls utilized to mitigate risks. The role will serve as a catalyst for change and a supportive audit consultant to all levels of management, and proactively recommend value-added and practical improvements to risk management, as well as to the efficiency and effectiveness of operations. The Internal Audit Manager will partner effectively with business leadership across functions, divisions, and regions in order to provide a solutions-driven audit program.

Essential Functions

  • Evaluate and monitor the ongoing design and operating effectiveness of controls over financial reporting throughout the organization
  • Help drive SOX 404 implementation effort, which includes management of internal and external audit teams
  • Identify and effectively communicate process improvements to drive the business or enhance audit approach, and share best practices
  • Communicate with all levels of management and have the ability to adjust the level of detail commensurate with the audience
  • Communicate to executives opportunities for process improvements
  • Assess control deficiencies as they are identified and advise control owners to establish and execute on a remediation plan
  • Identify opportunities to redesign and improve the operating effectiveness of controls through simplification and automation
  • Clearly communicate issues, including preparing comprehensive written reports, and pursue effective and timely resolution to issues
  • Conduct regular training for process owners regarding SOX compliance, how to update documentation, conduct walkthroughs, etc.
  • Drive delivery of internal audit's work on time, within budget, and in accordance with audit methodology and agreed quality standards
  • Work collaboratively with the Company's external auditors to execute a 'reliance based' testing strategy for ICFR
  • Provide an independent opinion on the governance, risk, and control environment of ImmunityBio
  • Develop and maintain the Company's entity-level risk assessment
  • Design and streamline internal processes, leveraging technology where possible, to allow the Business Process Owners to execute in the most efficient and effective manner possible
  • Performs other special projects and duties as assigned

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance
  • Minimum of 7 years of progressive, relevant experience, with a mix of public accounting and public company industry experience
  • ERP experience, preferably Microsoft Dynamics 365, as well as AuditBoard

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Strong knowledge of the COSO Framework and Sarbanes-Oxley Section 404 requirements
  • Demonstrated understanding of Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) rules
  • Exceptional decision-making and problem-solving skills, especially in situations where there is ambiguity or uncertainty
  • Results oriented - be adaptable to meet deadlines and budgets, multi-task, and deliver quality results
  • Ability to identify and assess financial and operational risks resulting in the development of an effective audit program
  • Strong presentation and negotiation communication skills
  • Knowledge and experience evaluating the design and effectiveness of processes and controls over system development/change management, logical and physical access, data integrity/accuracy/completeness
  • Strong analytical, financial analysis, and project management skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills

Working Environment / Physical Environment

  • This is a hybrid role (combination of onsite and remote)
  • This position primarily works at a computer

This position is eligible for a discretionary bonus and equity award. The annual base pay range for this position is below. The specific rate will depend on the successful candidate's qualifications, prior experience as well as geographic location.

$130,000 (entry-level qualifications) to $165,000 (highly experienced) annually
