Our facility in Billerica, Massachusetts is located in the metropolitan Boston area and specializes in the design and manufacturing of advanced photonics products based on MEMS and other micro-scale optical devices. Our unique technology enables the highest system performance in the most compact and cost-effective formats in a variety of applications.

This site's Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) products are laser-based imaging tools that have transformed ophthalmic care and made notable impacts on patients in cardiology, dermatology, oncology, gastroenterology, and other medical specialties.

The position assists R&D and manufacturing engineering to meet development and prototyping goals. The individual in this position shall work with R&D and manufacturing engineers. Performs functions associated with all manufacturing engineering, including working with engineers in set-up, testing, experimentation, and transfer to manufacturing. Performs quality testing and rework related to the production of parts, components, subassemblies, and final assemblies. Determines and may assist in developing methods and procedures to control or modify the process.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Works with engineers, assists and conducts experiments;
  • Assists in developing methods and procedures to control or modify the manufacturing process;
  • Uses programs to collect and evaluate operating data, analyses and adjusts products, instruments, or equipment;
  • Works from schematics, diagrams, written and verbal descriptions, layouts, or defined plans to perform testing, checkout, and troubleshooting functions;
  • Writes work instructions and train manufacturing operators;
  • Aligns and tests optical components;
  • Performs operational tests and fault isolation on systems and equipment, or manufacturing process basic troubleshooting;
  • Assist in the design, construction, test, and check-out of test equipment;
  • Strong operation of mechanical, electrical, and optical tools and equipment for test and quality inspection.

Requirements:

  • High School diploma or equivalent;
  • 5-7+ years' experience in a related field of optics assembly/alignment;
  • Ability to perform repetitive work while paying attention to detail;
  • Ability to work using a microscope;
  • Troubleshooting Skills: Supports high-level tech or engineer on troubleshooting equipment;
  • Familiar with Oscilloscopes and Spectrum Analyzers;
  • Computer Skills: Familiar with Microsoft Office products, use of Excel to collect, plot and analyze data.

Additional Desirable Qualifications:

  • Associate degree or BS in Engineering;
  • Demonstrated abilities to train other/new operators;
  • Strong understanding of measuring devices, technical drawings, specifications, and requirements.
